A Musical Journey from Winnipeg to the World
Ben Sures was born in Regina but spent most of his formative years in Winnipeg. Identifying strongly as a "Winnipegger," Ben's musical journey began when he realized that music was his true calling, especially in a city known for its vibrant music scene.
Influenced by his father's classical guitar skills and his grandmother's knack for the violin and guitar, Ben's musical aspirations took a leap forward when he attended the Winnipeg Folk Festival during high school. The intimate performances, acoustic instruments, and storytelling on display left a lasting impression, inspiring him to become a part of the festival someday—a dream he would later realize by performing there over 11 times.
Ben's musical journey expanded beyond the borders of Canada, taking him to international stages, including a memorable concert in Beirut and three tours in the UK. His versatility as a musician is evident in his fondness for various genres, from French swing music by Django Reinhardt to the rhythms of West African music.
Aside from his musical endeavors, Ben has delved into other creative outlets, including painting and writing. Notably, he authored a children's book with an indigenous theme, contributing to the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource.
With a career spanning over 10 albums, Ben Sures has evolved as a storyteller, producing eclectic and melodic compositions that resonate with audiences.
While navigating the challenges of the music industry, Ben has learned valuable lessons, emphasizing the importance of every relationship in shaping not only his career but his life experiences. His authenticity and dedication to connecting with audiences have made him a beloved figure in the Canadian music scene.
As Ben continues to explore his musical identity and embrace new creative endeavors, he remains a passionate storyteller, weaving his narratives into the fabric of the world's diverse musical landscape. Whether playing in the intimate setting of house concerts or the grandeur of festivals, Ben Sures continues to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of his listeners, reaffirming his status as a cherished Canadian singer-songwriter.
