Kim Gates, a musician from Edmonton, never imagined pursuing a career in music until life took an unexpected turn. Initially trained as a material engineering technologist, his journey into music began after a series of professional shifts, including working in oil and gas and eventually becoming a stay-at-home dad.
His foray into music started casually, playing guitar around campfires with friends. However, after his daughter was born, he found solace in music and began performing at open stages. A pivotal moment came when he was asked to host an open stage, marking his first paid musical endeavor.

Despite initial doubts about his musical abilities, encouragement from mentors like Bill Bourne and experiences like hosting a Youth Songwriter Showcase helped shape his perspective. One memorable encounter with a 16-year-old songwriter taught him valuable lessons about professionalism and dedication.

Today, Kim maintains a busy schedule, performing at a variety of venues from bars and pubs to seniors' homes. His performances are characterized by spontaneity and authenticity, with each show offering a unique experience for both him and his audience.
